An Investor’s Role in Combating Modern Slavery
Global expectations under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and targets under the UN Sustainable Development Goals provide businesses with expectations and goals to take effective measures to combat human trafficking, forced labour and modern slavery. Yet, there are an estimated 40 million people in modern slavery. Clearly, business as usual is not doing enough to address the problems and tackle root causes. What is an investor’s role in combating modern slavery and human trafficking? To help answer this question, this session brings together the perspectives of a human trafficking survivor, an investor, and the Chair of the Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking for a discussion about the development of Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking’s Blueprint. This session will share insights on the individual and collective actions investors must take to accelerate the end of modern slavery and human trafficking.
